Irving H. Lurie, a realty financier and architect who contributed his services in the planning and construction of more than 500 synagogues and other Jewish institutional buildings throughout the world, died here yesterday at the age of 70. Mr. Lurie was a founder of Temple Israel in Great Neck, N.Y. and served as its president for nine years. He was a recipient of the Louis Marshall Memorial Medal of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in recognition of his services as architectural consultant to the United Synagogues of America.
Mr. Lurie was president of the Lurie Mortgage Corp., a company that financed the conversion of East Side townhouses into multi-dwelling apartment buildings and construction and renovation in the East Village, Chelsea, Upper West Side and Harlem areas.
