Some 1,000 persons attended a memorial meeting in Shaaray Zion Synagogue here yesterday for Isaac Shalom, prominent philanthropist, who died July 24 at the age of 81 and was buried four days later on the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem. Mr. Shalom, a Brooklyn industrialist, had been president of Ozar Hatorah, an organization which provided religious and secular education for thousands of Jewish children in Moslem countries.
Sponsored by the Syrian Jewish community here – Mr. Shalom was a native of Aleppo, Syria – the memorial session heard eulogies by Rabbi Solomon David Sassoon, who flew from England for the purpose, as well as Rabbi Abraham Hecht, Orthodox leader; Samuel Haber, executive vice chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee; and Dr. Mordechai Hacohen, former director-general of Ozar Hatorah and now manager of the American Bank and Trust Co., New York.
