Isaac Stern, world-famed violinist, has cancelled concert appearances in the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Hungary in protest against the anti-Israel policies adopted by the governments of those countries.
Mr. Stern, who is now in Bucharest where he will perform later this week with the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra, telegraphically notified the governments of the three countries that as “a Jew and a Zionist,” he could not visit those countries and give concerts there after they had ordered the Israeli envoys to leave.
Mr. Stern is the president of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation in New York and, with his wife, is active in many Israeli causes.
