Isadore Lhevinne, well-known Anglo-Jewish writer and teacher of Spanish, has been decorated by the government of the South American republic of Ecuador with the medal of the Order of Almarita. He is the first Jew to receive the honor.
Mr. Lhevinne received the decoration in recognition of his two volumes in English on life in Ecuador. One of the books, “The Enchanted Jungle”, was selected by the Junior Literary Guild and the Boy Scouts of America as one of the outstanding books of the year.
