Israel agreed last night with a request from the United Nations Truce Organization for an inspection of the defense area along the Syrian border where there have been a number of recent shooting incidents. The UN organization had asked both Syria and Israel to permit such an inspection, to see whether prohibited weapons were in place on either side of the frontier. Thus far, however, no reply to the UNTSO request has been received from Syria.
In its reply, given to Maj. Gen. Odd Bull, UNTSO chief of staff, Israel pointed out that the real issue in the troubled area was Syria’s “avowed policy of aggression” against work being done in the Israeli fields by Israelis farming land which the UN itself had only recently reconfirmed as being inside Israel’s territory.
