The Israel national airline. El Al, has carried 70,000 passengers in the three years since its establishment, Arieh Pinkies, manager of the line, reported at a press conference here today.
The line, which carried 40 per cent of the passengers arriving in Israel by air during the three years, earned 4,000,000 pounds during the past nine months, 3,000,000 of it in foreign currency. El Al planes also carried 60 percent of all air freight and 42 percent of all air mail entering and leaving Israel during the past three years, Mr. Pinkas revealed.
He said the company hopes to be able to expand its service to and from New York to three flights weekly instead of the present two, Stressing the need for expansion, he said he hope the government would provide some 3, 000, 000 pounds, its share of the proposed expansion program.
