Israel’s concern that the Suez Canal be open to ships of all nations without discrimination was conveyed today to Secretary of State John Foster Dulles by Israel Ambassador Abba Eban.
The Israel envoy told reporters following the meeting that the issue of the Suez Canal dominated, the meeting with Mr. Dulles, which lasted 60 minutes. The Ambassador said he received a “clear picture” of the U. S. position on the Suez dispute from the Secretary. However, he refused to disclose any details.
Asked whether the discussion touched on Egypt’s new proposal that all nations, except Israel, form a negotiating body to revise the 1888 treaty, Mr. Eban said it had not.
