Israel feels that Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold “deserves high praise for his initial successes” on his peace mission in the Middle East but there are still “many disquieting matters needing international attention.” Abba Eban, Israel delegate to the United Nations, stated here today.
Mr. Eban discussed the situation in the Middle East in general this afternoon with Mr. Hammarskjold. During the day, Mr. Hammarskjold also conferred with Eric Johnston, President Eisenhower’s personal envoy to the Middle East. Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., American delegate, James J. Wadsworth, American deputy delegate, and Herve Alphand, head of the French delegation at the UN.
