The developing situation in Jordan was discussed today by Israel Ambassador Abba Eban and Acting Secretary of State Christian Herter against the background of a general review of Israel-American relations. Mr. Eban said the Jordanian situation was being carefully followed. Economic matters also emerged in today’s talk.
Mr. Eban was asked by reporters about the possibility of an Israeli ship being dispatched through the Suez Canal to test Nasser’s blockade of Israeli shipping. He stressed the need to implement rather than test United Nations resolutions like the one demanding unrestricted Israel shipping rights in the canal. He indicated that Israel reserved the right to test the canal in due course.
