An Israel-Jordan local commanders agreement in the Jerusalem area was reached here today when Lt. Col. Haim Herzog. Israel commander in Jerusalem, and Col. Abdul Halim al Zaket, commanding the Arab Legion forces in the city and its environs, agreed verbally to take action to prevent or quickly suppress all firing and other hostile acts. They signified their agreement to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization.

The provisional agreement calls for both sides to use only trained and disciplined military or police personnel in the first line of defense. All sentries and police guards will be instructed to withhold their fire unless ordered to fire by superior officers or unless they are in danger of attack by superior forces. A direct telephone line will connect the two commanders and will permit them to discuss and settle problems in relation to the maintenance of peace in the city.

The Israel-Egyptian Mixed Armistice Commission condemned Egypt last night for the mining of an Israel patrol car April 9 on a road adjoining the Gaza strip border in the vicinity of Nirim. The MAC also censured Israel for attacking an Egyptian military post in the vicinity of the blast shortly afterwards.
