A conference on the forthcoming Polish decree permitting Jews bound for Israel to leave Poland was held between M. Ukhmani, Israel consular official here, and J. Sluchanuki, chief of the Foreign Ministry’s Middle East department, it was announced here today.
The Ministry of Public Administration in currently engaged in trying to write a law which will permit Jews to emigrate after they renounce their Polish citizenship. The major difficulty appears to be that Israel Does not provide for the granting of citizenship before a Jew arrives in the state and the Polish Government believes that the proper legal procedure would be for a Jew to acquire Israeli citizenship before renouncing his Polish rights.
