An American youth, Edward Levi, who crossed over into Syria two years ago, near Ein Gev, was returned to Israel today in an exchange of prisoners between Israel and Syria. It was the first such exchange in two years.
The exchange, in the presence of United Nations military observers, took place at the Bnot Yaacov crossing point on the Israeli-Syrian border. Israel, in turn, handed over to the Syrians a 19-year-old Syrian who had crossed over into Israel a year ago. Levi told Israeli police he had no idea where he had been kept by the Syrians. He will be turned over to the United States Embassy for repatriation.
