Israel and Syria have a “window of opportunity” for reaching peace, former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker said during a visit Saturday to Damascus. Baker, who held separate meetings with President Hafez Assad and Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa, warned that it is unclear how long the opportunity will remain. Baker said he was visiting Syria as a private citizen.
