Foreign Minister Abba Eban disclosed today that Israel has asked both Nigeria and its break-away eastern province of Biafra to make stronger efforts to end their civil war but the appeals have been in vain. Mr. Eban spoke in reply to questions in the Knesset. His disclosure was the first that Israel has made direct diplomatic representations in the Biafran situation.
The Foreign Minister said that Israel would continue to provide humanitarian help to Biafra and will continue to let the Nigerian authorities in Lagos know of Israel’s shock and indignation over the plight of Biafran civilians.
