Israeli officials reported that the management of Ford in Israel had been asked to speed up assembly of cars to meet local needs. The request was made at a meeting between Transport Minister Moshe Carmel and Dr. Shaul Lifshitz, a Ford representative. The locally-assembled Fords, which contain several Israeli-made components, sells for about $425 less than the imported version. There is currently a 12-month waiting list for the vehicle.
