Minister of Agriculture Moshe Dayan asked U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson to withdraw American opposition to expansion of Israel’s egg and poultry exports. Mr. Benson, who left Israel today, said he would transmit the request to Washington.
Last year, American and European poultry farmers asked for a limitation of Israel’s exports in the field, contending that Israel was using American surplus fodder to compete with the Americans and Europeans in the European markets. In response to those objections, Israel agreed, six months ago, to limit its exports to 300,000,000 eggs and $600,000 worth of poultry annually.
Mr. Benson said that during 1959, Israel imported $60,000,000 worth of American agricultural products making the U.S. the chief agricultural supplier to Israel.
