The 25th anniversary celebration of Israel “has a real political significance that could not have been foreseen, or even dreamed of, in May, 1948,” said Mrs. Charlotte Jacobson, chairman, American Section of the World Zionist Organization. In an anniversary message issued today, the Zionist leader declared that the anniversary “is thus more than a sentimental and happy celebration. Its (Israel’s) incredible development, and its growing political, social, military and economic progress is a factor in world diplomacy and in the maintenance of world peace.”
Mrs. Jacobson noted that when President Truman recognized the new State of Israel 25 years ago it was doubtful that he foresaw the tremendous growth and vitality of Israel in so short a span of time. “Nor is it probable,” she continued, “that Mr. Truman realized that a quarter of a century later, Israel would emerge as the chief ally of the United States in the Middle East In this world of dissension, with its ever present threat of the breakout of war, the strength and future of Israel is an important aspect of United States foreign policy.”
