The actions of the Israel authorities in handling the case of Youssef Abu Gosh, Arab sheikh who served with the Sternists during the underground war against the British Mandatory Administration, were today criticized by the Knesset Domestic Affairs Committee.
Approving the findings of a subcommittee which investigated the case, the body reported that Abu Gosh had not been kidnapped as charged, but had left the country voluntarily and was now safe and sound beyond its borders. The committee also disclosed that the former Sternist’s wife and children had infiltrated the country during the time the Sheikh was imprisoned and that they had been expelled by the authorities.
The committee called the authorities’ action discriminatory, particularly in view of Abu Gosh’s friendship toward the Jewish cause. It also asked the authorities to explain whether this situation could be corrected.
