The Jewish Agency and the Absorption Ministry are investigating reports that an unidentified organization has been urging settlers in the new immigrant township of Karmiel to emigrate to Canada.
The reports surfaced after 18 new immigrant families from that Upper Galilee town left the country and some of them reportedly reached Canada More Karmiel families reportedly are preparing to emigrate. Mayor Baruch Langer of Karmiel insists, however, that no problem exists He said that Karmiel has absorbed 600 new immigrant families in the last few months and the rate of departure has been no greater than in any other part of the country.
The mysterious organization allegedly responsible for the departures was said to promise immigrant families high salaries and free education for their children if they go to Canada. The emigrants reportedly fly to Canada by way of Greece.
