Israel voted in the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday in favor of a resolution recommending to the Security Council that it take urgent, effective measures “to ensure the immediate removal of the South African presence from Namibia” previously known as South West Africa, and “to secure for Namibia its independence.” The resolution was carried by a vote of 96 to two with 18 abstentions, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Britain and France.
