The 70th birthday of Israel Premier David Ben Gurion was celebrated here tonight at 25 dinners in various parts of the city sponsored by the Greater New York Committee for Israel Bonds. The committee, which seeks a special goal of $700,000 in bond sales for the birthday celebrations, will sponsor a total of 70 dinners in the city before October closes.
At the principal dinner tonight, Dr. Dov Joseph, former Israel Minister for Developments, stressed the decisive role which funds obtained from bond sales play in strengthening Israel’s economy. Noting that Israel must buy large quantities of arms at this time as a deterrent to Arab attack, he said that development and absorption of immigrants will be hampered unless bond sales and other fund sources are increased.
