A central manpower council to direct the allocation of manpower in Israel according to the country’s military and economic needs will be established, it was officially announced here today. A decision to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the Cabinet yesterday, held in the office of Premier David Ben Gurion here.
The council will be attached to the Premier’s office, the announcement said. It revealed that the Cabinet discussed at its meeting yesterday–the first regular Cabinet meeting held in Jerusalem–a number of questions concerning Israel’s foreign policy. Technical aspects of the transfer of government offices to Jerusalem, including the erection of permanent buildings for these offices, were also discussed by the Cabinet.
Some members of the Cabinet, including the Premier, remained in Jerusalem. They will participate in a torchlight rally which will take place tonight on Herzl Hill. The rally will be attended by 4,000 members of Israel youth battalions.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ben Gurion today sent a letter to the Jewish Agency thanking it for assisting the government in moving to Jerusalem. “We trust that the Yishnuv and the World Zionist Organization will appreciate your deed,” the letter said.
