Matters pertaining to Israel’s security situation were discussed for three hours yesterday at a meeting of the Cabinet in which Chief of Staff Yitzhak Rabin and Deputy Defense Minister Shimon Peres participated. Another meeting devoted to political and diplomatic aspects of Israel’s security problems will be held by the Cabinet prior to Premier Levi Eshkol’s departure for his state visit to the United States at the end of this month.
Following yesterday’s Cabinet meeting the Israel Government issued a warning today to strikers in the post office system and other government offices that they may have “to face the consequences” if they do not resume normal schedules. It is understood that the Government may press for the adoption of compulsory or voluntary arbitration as a possible solution to the impasse.
Prime Minister Eshkol will be accompanied on his forthcoming visit to the United States by Deputy Defense Minister Peres; Haim Yachil, director general of the Foreign Ministry; and Yaacov Herzog, deputy director of the Foreign Ministry, it was announced here today. Mr. Eshkol is due to arrive in Washington June 1.
