“Israel is the single most important factor in the growing development of Jewish self-identification,” according to Avraham Schenker of Jerusalem, member of the World Zionist Executive and head of its Department of Information and Organization. Addressing American-Jewish journalists, Schenker claimed that Israel exists not only for the Israelis who live there but for all Jews throughout the world who want to maintain their Jewishness.

He said that it is the task of Zionism today, as it always has been, to “advance Judaism throughout the world as well as to build and support the Jewish state. Thus,” he continued, “Israel’s problems, and it has many, are problems not only of Israel but of the Jewish people in its totality.”

The Texas State AFL-CIO approved last night the establishment of the Texas Trade Union Council for Histadrut, Roy R. Evans, president of the Texas AFL-CIO, was installed as chairman of the Council, the purpose of which is to manifest support of Histadrut and the people of Israel.
