Israel’s Air Force has been strengthened recently to such an extent that it can “deal simultaneously” with both the Egyptian and Syrian air forces, Brig, Dan Tulkowsky, Israel’s air chief, said today.
He stressed that the Egyptian air force was currently in better condition than it was during the Sinai operation, reporting that the backbone of the Egyptian air arm was the Soviet-made MIG-17 and the Hyushin-28 bomber.
He said that in the long run the Syrian air force was “even more dangerous” than that of Egypt, adding that many Syrian airmen were being trained in air bases of the “Eastern bloc.” He gave an oblique warning that the same distances existed between Syrian bases and Israel as between Israel and Syria.
He revealed that the Israel Air Force mission had completed its assignment for Burma and that at present there were no Burmese cadets in Israel training schools.
