An Israel Foreign Ministry spokesman today sharply criticized Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko for conducting a dangerous propaganda campaign against the Jewish State in an effort to win the sympathies of the most aggressive and extreme circles in the Arab world.
Mr. Gromyko’s words about Israel yesterday, as reported in the press, the spokesman said, came as no surprise to Israel. They were in keeping with the line which Soviet propaganda has been following in recent months, he noted.
The Soviet presentation of the Israel-Syrian situation, the spokesman continued, is “notional from first to last.” The objective observer, the Israeli spokesman concluded, will have no difficulty in judging whether the Soviet propaganda campaign “enhances or prejudices the cause of peace in the area.”
