Egyptian Premier Col. Gamal Abdel Nasser’s speech during the Egyptian celebrations marking the British withdrawal from the Suez Canal zone contained a threat against Israel, an Israel Foreign Ministry spokesman said tonight. Israel believes that aggression is being planned and threatened and that its rights to security and to freedom from fear of attack under the terms of the Israel-Egyptian armistice pact are being violated.
The spokesman revealed that Israel has made a complaint to the Mixed Armistice Commission to this effect. He said: “Egypt’s hostile intention was further strengthened by the recent tightening of the Suez Canal blockade and the concentration of the Egyptian army along Israel’s borders and by the Egyptian claim that she is at war with Israel.” Col. Nasser has publicly informed the world “in unmistakable terms” that he plans to use the weapons displayed during the celebrations in Cairo against Israel, the Foreign Ministry spokesman charged.
