Meanwhile, Jewish leaders said that the once-flourishing but small Jewish community of Florina, near the Greek-Yugoslav frontier, is gradually disappearing. Before the war, the community numbered 400 Jews, most of them merchants, but only 88 survived the Nazi persecutions and half of that number have since settled in Israel. The remaining half are also expected to emigrate to the new nation.
