Two Israeli educators were honored here today at a reception given by Israel Consul General Simcha Pratt, and attended by community leaders active in Jewish education. The two are Dr. Israel Mehlman, director of the Department of Education and Culture of the Jewish Agency in Jerusalem, and Dr. Mordecai Kamrat, visiting consultant of the Jewish Agency’s Department of Education in New York.
Dr. Kamrat developed what has become known as the Israel Ulpan method of language teaching. During his one-year stay in the United States, Dr. Kamrat will establish a network of American Ulpanim for the study of Hebrew, of which the first is scheduled to open in New York on November 30.
