Several hundred men and women today picketed the Israel consulate here in protest against the conscription of Orthodox young women for national non-military service in Israel.

The pickets, responding to a call by a group which identified itself as the National Committee to Repeal the Women’s Draft in Israel, carried placards and shouted slogans opposing conscription of women and demanding “democracy in Israel.” The group included a number of rabbis.
