Israel today declined a request by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization for a contribution of $86,000 to an $87,000,000 fund for the rescue of Nubian antiquities in Egypt and Sudan threatened by the construction of the Aswan High Dam on the Nile River in Egypt. In turning down the request, the Israel National Commission for UNESCO explained that the financial consideration and the method proposed for financing it were of such magnitude that they should be brought before UNESCO’s general conference for a decision.
