Israel’s defense budget will be “several tens of millions of dollars” higher this year than it was in 1966, Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir said here last night. He made that disclosure at a meeting of members of the Mapai-Achdut Avodah alignment, the dominant grouping in Israel’s coalition Government.
Answering questions about the 1967 budget, Mr. Sapir said also that, since 1951, Israel’s expenditures for security purposes had multiplied by 14 times. Israel’s expenditures for defense are not revealed entirely in the Government’s budget.
