Israel military authorities have denied a report from Cairo of a clash between Israel and Egyptian military forces in the Gaza area.
An official spokesman explained that what actually happened was the following: An Israel patrol in the border area lost its way and entered Egyptian torritory. The Egyptions opened fire and the patrol, realizing its mistake, withdrew to Israel territory without casualties.
The report from Cairo said that: “light” Israel forces, with air cover, crossed the Palestine armistice lines on Friday and penetrated an Arab village 20 miles southwest of Gaza. The Israel forces were driven back by Egyptian soldiers, the Cairo statement said.
