Two members of the Israel delegation conferred with Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold this morning, relaying to the United Nations chief the Israel Government’s concern about renewal of Egyptian raids across the Gaza border. The talks, held at Israel’s request, lasted a half-hour. The delegates who visited Mr. Hammarskjold are Deputy Permanent Representative Mordecai R. Kidron and Arthur C. Liveran.
Mr. Hammarskjold is understood to have told the Israel delegates that, until they reported to him about Egypt’s latest infiltrations across the Israel border, he had not been formally aware of the situation. The Secretary General reportedly told the Israelis that the most expeditious manner of reporting such a situation would be through a complaint which Israel could file with the Israel-Egypt Mixed Armistice Commission.
