A Foreign Ministry spokesman announced today that mine-clearing operations near the Syrian border where Syrian gunners killed two Israeli police and wounded six two weeks ago, had been completed.
He said that in the last stages of the clearance operation only a few civilians were at work under the protection of 66 police. The lands cleared of mines, located near the Dan settlement in northern Israel, will be put under cultivation.
Israel denied today Syrian charges that Israeli military units with armored cars and air support had moved into the demilitarized frontier area. The Syrian story is obviously designed as renewed interference in normal development work proceeding in the demilitarized zone, which politically is part of Israel,” a military spokesman said.
