The growing tension along the Israel-Arab borders resulting from the renewed raids by Arab commandos was brought today to the attention of French Premier Guy Mollet by Israel Ambassador Jacob Tsur, who had a 45 minute talk with the Premier.
The Israel envoy pointed out that the United Nations was quick in taking action with regard to the first part of its November 2 resolution calling for a cease-fire on the Israel-Egyptian front, but did nothing with regard to the second part of the same resolution which called for the cessation of Egyptian commando raids and incursions into Israel territory.
Yesterday, Ambassador Tsur conferred on the same subject with French Foreign Minister Christian Pineau, who assured him that France will support Israel in the complaint against Arab commando activities. Mr. Pineau was also reported to have reaffirmed the French position that France will strive in negotiations for a Suez Canal and general Middle East settlement, to assure Israel of free use of the Canal; access to the Red Sea port of Akaba; internationalization of the Gaza strip if Israel does not get it in a general settlement, and demilitarization of the Sinai area.
