Israel’s envoys in the eight member states of the Security Council with which Israel has relations have been campaigning over the weekend against a resolution presented to the Council by Yugoslavia and India. The resolution would have the Council “pronounce itself” against Israeli occupation and in favor of complete withdrawal.
Officials stressed here today that they viewed certainly announce it no longer accepts Resolution 242 if the draft is approved. However, the officials said they were fully confident the United States would veto the draft. There is still hope at this stage that a compromise draft will be arrived at which the U.S. can support.
