Israel Foreign Minister Golda Meir today met with Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and later told newsmen she and Mr. Dulles discussed problems of the Middle East of interest to both countries. She declined to elaborate.
Mrs. Meir was accompanied by Ambassador Abba Eban and Yaacov Herzog, newly arrived Minister of the Embassy. Edward Lawson, U. S. Ambassador to Israel, participated in the meeting, Mr. Eban met later today with William Rountree, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs in what was described as a routine discussion
Prior to receiving the Israeli delegation Mr. Dulles met briefly with Egyptian Ambassador Ahmed Hussein. The Egyptian discussed Egyptian-American relations prior to his departure for a visit to Cairo.
Ambassador Eban today tendered a luncheon at the Mayflower Hotel here in honor of Mrs. Meir with many leading diplomats and personages in attendance. Guests included the Ambassadors of France, Italy, and Norway; Secretary of Labor Mitchell; Loy Henderson and James Richards of the State Department; Edward Lawson, American Ambassador to Israel, Eric Johnston, special Presidential envoy; Lynn Stambaugh of the Export Import Bank and others.
(At the United Nations last night, Mrs. Meir gave a reception at which top members of the Soviet delegation turned out in full force, as did a variety of representatives of the United States, England, France and several members of the Afro-Asian bloc. The reception was attended also by leaders of all major Jewish organizations in this country )
