A farewell dinner honoring James G. McDonald, U.S. Ambassador to Israel who is retiring from his post, was given last night by the Foreign Ministry here. The affair, which was presided over by Minister of Labor Golda Myerson, was attended by the entire diplomatic corps, members of the Israel Cabinet and high Israel officials.
Ambassador McDonald is leaving today by plane for the United States. “Reluctantly I leave Israel, but I sincerely hope to return sooner perhaps than it is generally believed,” Mr. McDonald said at a farewell party tendered to him by the Israel-America Friendship Association.
The U.S. Embassy here, in a communique, announced that Ambassador McDonald is departing for the United States for the Christmas holidays.
