The Israel-German reparations pact under which Germany will pay the Jewish State $822,000,000 in settlement of material claims filed by Israel and world Jewish organizations and arising out of the Nazi persecution of European Jewry was initialled at a private ceremony here this evening in advance of the formal signing tomorrow morning. The agreement was initialled by Prof. Franz Boehm, head of the German delegation to the reparations talks at The Hague, and by Dr. George Josephthal, head of the Israeli delegation, and Dr. F. Shinnar, financial advisor to the Israel Foreign Ministry and a member of the Israel negotiating team.
Israel Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett was scheduled to arrive here at midnight for the formal signing which will take place early in the morning. West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who will sign for his government, has scheduled a 9130 A.M. appointment with French Foreign Minister Robert Schumann and would like the signing ceremony to be completed before that time. The place fixed for the signing ceremony remains a closely guarded secret.
