A committee to work out practical proposals for closer cooperation between the Israel Government and the Jewish Agency was appointed here today at a joint meeting of leaders of the two bodies. The proposals will be submitted to the next joint meeting, on Wednesday.
At today’s plenary session of the Agency, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of its American section, said that “many in the United States feel that there is an urgent necessity for closer contact between Israel’s envoy in Washington and the Jewish Agency and for closer cooperation between the two in the field of political activities.” He outlined a number of proposals which he said would improve relations between the Israel Government and the Agency in the Jewish state and abroad.
Dr. Goldmann emphasized that cooperation between the two is necessary, and urged that the government grant the Agency special status in the field of absorbing immigrants and colonization. Premier David Ben Gurion and Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett participated in the Agency session.
The Agency also discussed the dates for the convocation of the World Zionist Congress and the Zionist Actions Committee. It was decided to convene the Actions Committee on April 16, while the Congress session was set for either October or December of this year.
