Separate messages congratulating U.S. Supreme Court Justice Goldberg upon his appointment to the chairmanship of America’s delegation to the United Nations were cabled here today by Israel’s President Zalman Shazar. Prime Minister Levi Esnkol and Foreign Minister Golda Meir.
Justice Goldberg’s selection for the post by President Johnson was hailed widely in Israel’s press. Leading newspapers emphasized editorially the “high qualities” which Justice Goldberg possesses, and his reputation for fair judgment. The Jerusalem Post saw Justice Goldberg’s appointment to the high post as a tribute to the standing achieved by the great body of American Jews, and their increasing service to their country’s public life.
