About 1, 800 Government administrative officials, members of the Administrative Officials Association, will stage a one day work stoppage tomorrow, it was announced by the association’s leaders here today.
The stoppage is designed to emphasize the claim of the officials that, as a result of recent wage increases to engineers and other technical and professional workers, many subordinates now receive salaries higher than the sums paid to the senior officials.
Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, appealed to the senior civil service employees of the Government, Friday, to cancel their plans for the one day “stay-away.” But the association contends that Histadrut has failed to carry out promises to “correct” the situation regarding the gap between salaries of the higher officials and the wages of subordinates. The officials planning to absent themselves from their offices tomorrow said the time off will be charged against their vacation time.
Meanwhile, Israel’s telegraph messengers continued today to stay out on strike, maintaining a walk-out begun last week to back demands for higher pay. Newspaper advertisement appearing in Israel’s press today “invited” persons and offices expecting telegrams to pick up the messages at the telegraph offices.
