The Israel Port Authority will seek bids within a month for construction of a new deep sea harbor at Eilat, Pinhas Ginsburg, director-general of the Transport Ministry, disclosed today. He said that the Transport Ministry had already earmarked 2,500,000 pounds ($1,430,000) in its 1962-63 budget for the first stages of construction of the new harbor.
The high Israel official made the announcement during a reception aboard the Burmese passenger-cargo vessel. the Pyidawbyunt, which was anchored at Eilat. The arrival of the vessel marked the start of regular passenger service by Zim Lines between Eilat and East Africa.
