Earl Harrison, chairman of the Citizens Committee on Displaced Persons, this week-end charged that members of the House Sub-Committee on Immigration which is conducting hearings on the Stratton Bill, to admit 400,000 DP’s to this country during the next four years, are “not too eager to push the thing along.” The statement was made at a press conference called in connection with the 41st annual convention of the fraternal organization Brith Sholem, which today presented Mr. Harrison with its 1947 National Award.
In a speech to the convention Frank A. Simons, head of Brith Sholem, declared that if economic conditions worsen “we are likely to see an upsurge of anti-Semitism, the like of which has never been known before.” He also reported an increase in discrimination in employment since the end of the war.
