Israel has given permanent resident status to the Black Hebrew community. Monday’s decision by Interior Minister Avraham Poraz means that the 2,000 Black Hebrews, who live in the Negev, will be able to serve in the army. African Americans who emigrated from the United States, the Black Hebrews believe they are descended from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel.
