Israel has the second highest skin cancer rate in the world, behind Australia. The high melanoma rate is believed to be due to ignorance of the risks of suntanning, as well as genetic defects among Sephardi Jews. According to the Israel Cancer Association, approximately 200 Israelis die every year from the disease.
