Sirens sounded throughout Israeli cities Tuesday as security forces acted out responses to various wartime scenarios, including salvoes of chemical-tipped missiles and major terrorist attacks. Officials described the daylong exercise as routine, but commentators said it aimed to prepare for a potential confrontation with Iran and implement the lessons learned from last year’s Lebanon war, when Hezbollah rocket salvoes caught much of northern Israel unprepared.
