The Israel Supreme Court today handed down an order to the Israel Government to show cause within 15 days why the Jordan Exploration Company should not be permitted to continue prospecting for oil.
The company received two concessions from the Palestine Mandatory Administration in 1939 and began work in the field, but was forced to discontinue operations by the second World War and by the Israel War of Liberation. Recently it asked the Israel Government for renewal of its concessions, but the request was denied.
