The role of Israel in accepting hundreds of thousands of refugees from Europe was underlined here in a statement by Eliezer Doron, Israeli delegate to the General Council of the International Refugee Organization, on the liquidation of the I.R.O.
He said that his government was proud that it was in third place among the nations of the world in the number of immigrants accepted. He paid tribute to the cooperation of I.R.O. officials in helping Jewish Agency officers process immigrants for Israel. He added that the tens of thousands of DP’s in Israel and elsewhere who received an opportunity to start a new life through the activities of the I.R.O. will always remember the organization with “deep gratitude.”
